Ray and I were best friends in high school. We lived just two houses apart on the same block, and some of my favorite memories are of us playing in the marching band and at the Bean Runner. In August 2019, I returned to Peekskill for a vacation and had the chance to attend one of Ray’s jazz festivals. During the event, he introduced me as best friend from high school — it was a moment that truly touched my heart. The next day, I helped him set up for another jazz festival down by the river. It felt like we had stepped back in time. We laughed, shared stories, and enjoyed every minute of it. That time together meant so much to me, and I will cherish it forever. I love you, Blue, Rest in peace. Paul Bullock, Jr.

Dear Riita and Ray’s family, Ron and I are so sad with the passing of Ray. Over the years whenever we saw Ray, he never once changed from who he was. He was a wonderful person who was kind, humble and enthusiastic about life. I always loved talking to him because he gave you his full attention. His eyes would sparkle when he spoke. He had the uncanny ability to remember everyone he ever met and I know he called everyone friend. The last two reunions Kathi and I planned for our PHS classes, Ray offered to play the night before at The Bean Runner. We had so much fun at both of those events. Ray literally got out of his rehab to play at the one in October. None of us knew how ill Ray had been. He treated us with the most heartfelt show. As I looked around the room and I saw multiple men and women with both smiles and tears, the room just felt electric. I know we felt truly lucky to be in such a wonderful presence as Ray Blue. Ray was a treasure and those people who ever had the pleasure of meeting him and nearing his music will never forget it. A year after we moved to NC, Ray played in an event in Apex. We brought our daughter and grandson and Ray always asked about Sammy whenever I spoke to him after that. I know Ray will be missed by so many. Rest in peace, Our Friend until we all reunite in Heaven. Our deepest condolences.
