Q: How did you meet Tamara?
A: My wife and I met Tammy and John in OSV in SC. They bought their Summer Home next door to us. Two wonderful caring people, Tammy always had a smile on her face. My wife Denise and I, Paul, are sending our deepest and truest condolences to John and his family. Keep the faith, God IS good, and he has his reasons that we all will never understand but God himself. Stay strong, be positive. Tammy’s just another Angel brought back to the fold. For Tammy — Our Tree of Love
I come before you with a heart both heavy and full,
To speak of a soul who gave everything, and asked nothing -
Our beloved Tammy.
She was like a tree.
Not just any tree -
But one so vast and loving,
It seemed to touch the sky
And shelter the earth.
Her love grew in every direction.
Branches stretched far and wide,
Each one a soul she touched -
A friend, a child, a stranger made family.
And though one branch never knew the other,
Each felt her warmth,
Her quiet strength,
The way leaves feel sunlight
Even when clouds roll in.
Through storms and droughts,
She stood -
Roots deep with wisdom,
Trunk steady with kindness,
Always giving, always growing.
Even in life’s darkest winters,
She never let her love go bare.
She stayed green,
She stayed giving.
There was no end to her nurturing.
No limit to her reach.
You could rest in her shade,
Cry in her arms,
Laugh in her wind.
She would hold you just the same.
Tammy taught us that love is not a thing we keep -
It’s something we extend,
Outward and outward,
Like a tree growing another branch,
Another twig,
Another leaf.
She is gone too soon.
And yet -
She’s still here.
In every person she lifted,
Every heart she healed,
Every life she wrapped her love around -
She lives.
And though her tree may no longer rise before our eyes,
We carry her roots in us now.
We are the branches.
We are the leaves.
We are the living memory
Of her endless, generous canopy.
Rest well, dear Tammy.
Your love will never fall.

Tammy was the first person I meh when I moved to Peekskill. We hadn’t even bought our home - we were just checking out the yard and she introduced herself. She was pregnant with Jake, and she was a definite selling point - friendly and kind. I could already see us chatting away at the fence line where our backyards met.
The first time I hung out with Tammy was classic Tammy. She made a wonderful meal and served it by candlelight, and then she spilled red wine all over the white maternity dress I was wearing. We both laughed so hard. She loaned me some clothes so I wouldn’t have to walk back to my house, and she returned my dress, spotless, the next day. The whole episode was so Tammy - the confident cook, the consummate hostess, the silliest, spilliest, most generous person I’ve ever met, who also taught me more about running a house and making it a home than I ever could have imagined.
Tammy was also the first person to get me out of my house when I had postpartum depression after the birth of my son. She entertained me in her living room and gave motherhood to me straight. She made me feel like I wasn’t alone. She saved me.
Tammy and I did end up spending many hours where our backyards met. We tore down that part of the fence. We would meet during naps and at night, when John was working and my husband was out of town. Tammy helped me grow into myself, to learn about myself and my children and my marriage and what was important.
And that’s how she helped me when I did the hardest thing I had ever done and ended my marriage. Tammy was there every step of the way and never let me doubt myself. She is part of the reason why I have the life I have now, and what a beautiful legacy that is for me to remember her by.
Tammy was a beacon, shining welcoming light on everything and everyone who came into her life. She was giving and kind and gentle and vocal and I just know she changed so many lives. I’m grateful to be one of them.
