David Vail Hyde, born on August 4, 1942, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at the age of 83.

The cherished son of David and Georgia Hyde, Dave was a lifelong resident of Peekskill until moving to Connecticut in 2018 to be closer to his daughters.   

A graduate of Peekskill High School, Dave dedicated over 60 years to the Cortlandt Hook and Ladder fire company, where he served as President and Captain.   His commitment to his community as a volunteer firefighter was a testament to his selflessness and dedication.

Dave’s career began at Hudson Valley Oil Company, where he met the love of his life.   He continued his career as an oil burner service mechanic and oil delivery driver with Hygeia Ice & Fuel.   In the early 1990s, David found a new opportunity as a custodian in the Peekskill City School District, where he eventually retired.

Family was the center of Dave’s world.   He adored his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephew.  Whether coaching his daughters’ soccer games or cheering from the sidelines, Dave’s presence was a constant source of love and support.   

Dave and Edna cherished their annual trips to Wildwood Crest, NJ, where they built lifelong friendships.  Dave never missed a chance for vacation, and some of his fondest memories were the cruises he took with Edna, their friends, and family.   He was also an avid Yankee fan, never missing a game and always cheering for his favorite team.

Dave faced much adversity over the years due to health challenges, but he never complained and always persevered.  He will be remembered for his strength, patience, and his kind heart.   Without saying a word, Dave could light up a room like no other.   

David is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Edna, his daughter Mariann Hyde, his daughter Amy Esposito and her husband Nicholas, and two grandchildren, Cailey and Anthony.

Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm 

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 137 N Division St, Peekskill, NY 10566, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 11:00 am.
