Obituary of Elaine Goetchius

Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Elaine A. Bennett Goetchius, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in her home.

Elaine was born on January 19, 1936, in Peekskill, NY, to Allen E. Bennett and Dorothy Travis Bennett. She married the love-of-her-life, Otto J. Goetchius, on December 2, 1958.

Elaine dedicated herself not only to her family but also to her community. She worked for many years at the Town of Cortlandt and the Village of Buchanan. She was also a proud member of the Peekskill Garden Club and the Buchanan Seniors.  She spent countless hours in her rock garden, where she grew and nurtured incredible plants and flowers. Her gardens were a true labor of love.

Spending time with her family was the greatest gift. Elaine loved spending time with her grandchildren and was always so proud to share their accomplishments.

Otto and Elaine loved spending time on the River.  Whether she was on a boat, the shoreline or just enjoying sitting on the deck at Ed or Brian’s homes. This excitement continues with their sons and grandchildren.

Elaine leaves behind her children: Ed of Wappingers Falls and Brian (Lisa) of Croton-on-Hudson. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Christopher (Erika), Blake (Pam), Matthew and Jessica. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Otto in 2004, her parents, sister Dorothy Travis and brother Allen E. Bennett, Jr., who undoubtedly await her with open arms.

At Elaine’s request, there will be no public services.

In lieu of flowers, Elaine requested donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital online or by mail.
