Obituary of Monika Mayer
Mohegan Lake - Monika H. Mayer, 88, passed away Wednesday October 29, 2025.
Monika was predeceased by Manfred Mayer, her beloved husband of 61 years, her father Walter Bothe, mother Paula Merkle and her sister Barbara Rossi.
She is survived by her children- Sylvia Walker, Peter Mayer (LaVonne), and Susan Petersen (Dave), grandchildren- Jason, Lisa, Brian, Lauren, Andrew, Denis & Steven. Her great grandchildren Emmy, Audrey, Gregory, Camilla, Parker, Aviva.
Monika was born in Hannover, Germany where she lived until she was a teenager. She immigrated to the USA with her mother and sister in 1957. In 1959 she married Manfred and they started their life in America. She was a resident of Rockland County for over 30 years where she raised her family, was a member of the German American Club and was employed as a school bus driver for Haverstraw Transit.
Monika retired to Vestal, NY in 2006. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends over the years. She loved to tend to her plants and flowers, dance, crochet, play cards, board games as well as play shuffleboard at the Senior Center.
A Memorial service will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church at 10:30 am Tuesday, Nov 11th, located at 71 Central Hwy. Stony Point, NY. Friends of the family are welcome.
She will be missed by her family and friends and all who knew her. She made friends easily wherever she went.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Atonement Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
