Obituary of Kevin James Brophy
Born on July 16, 1957, the youngest of three sons to Dolores Joyce Brophy and John P. Brophy, Kevin James Brophy was raised in Peekskill, New York. He began his career with the Peekskill City Police Department, served with distinction as a court officer in Peekskill City Court, and later as a Senior Court Officer in Westchester County Supreme and County Court in White Plains, NY until his retirement.
Kevin was a loving father to Shannon Kathleen and Kevin James Brophy II, a devoted brother to John and Michael, and a proud uncle to Erica, Megan, and Tim Brophy. He was a beloved friend to countless others fortunate enough to have shared paths with him throughout his life’s journey.
Kevin was a natural-born musician with an ear for melody. He was taught piano as a child by his mother and carried this gift throughout his life. Kevin could always be counted on to find a piano in a room and sit down. The music would flow, and applause always followed. He was equally adept with his guitar and never hesitated to happily provide the party soundtrack. A lover of classic rock, Kevin filled his home with the sound of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Clapton, Allman Brothers, and Rolling Stones, amongst others. He passed his passion for music on to his children, inspiring them to play instruments, appreciate great music, and to understand that music was not just simply sound, but a form of emotion and expression as well.
Kevin had a phenomenal green thumb in his vegetable garden and proudly shared its bounty with friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. He was a gifted cook as well; he began weekends before sunrise, preparing homemade sauce from his garden’s tomatoes and herbs, along with the best meatballs around. His meals were made with patience, pride, and love.
A great wit with an unending sense of humor, and always ready with a helping hand to all, Kevin was a truly kind and gentle soul. His ability to bring laughter and comfort into the lives of others was unmatched.
Kevin passed peacefully on November 2, 2025. He will be forever loved, mourned, and deeply missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home in Peekskill, NY on Friday, November 7th from 4:00–8:00 pm. Interment will take place at noon on Saturday, November 8th at the Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor, NY.
“Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged,
Missing me one place search another,
I stop somewhere, waiting for you.”
