George Grimes Obituary
George Grimes, son of Holbrook and Elsie Grimes, of Peekskill, New York, passed away peacefully on April 24, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on December 2, 1949, in Manhattan, New York, he settled and raised his children in Peekskill, NY, where he built a life centered on family, service, and community.
George was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War as a machine gun squad leader, Company A, 1st Battalion, Fifth Marines. His bravery and dedication were recognized with numerous honors, including the Combat Action Ribbon, Bronze Star with Valor, and the Purple Heart. He later worked as a nuclear officer at Indian Point Energy Center, where he was known for his strong work ethic, knowledge, and dedication.
He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor—a true jokester who could make anyone laugh. George loved fishing, playing cards, and watching the Giants with his family; always the life of the party creating memories that will be cherished forever.
A generous and selfless man, George was always there to help others in times of need, never asking for anything in return. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a loyal friend.
George often shared words that reflected his outlook on life: “When your number’s up, your numbers up. So don’t sweat the small stuff. It is what it is” offering comfort and strength through life’s challenges.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 55 years, Margaret Rose Grimes; his loving children, Kimberly and Kyle Knapp; George-Ryan and Rebekah Grimes; and his cherished granddaughter, Harper Jade Grimes. Also, survived by his brother James (Suzanne) Grimes and his sister Kathleen Pascazi, along with many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his sisters Margaret (Thomas) Stephens and Nancy (Roger) Loughlin.
George Grimes will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY, on Wednesday, April 29, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Funeral Mass to be held at the North American Martyrs Chapel, 55 Oscawana Lake Rd, Putnam Valley, NY, on Thursday, April 30, at 11:30 am.
Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery.
