Andrew Carnan, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on August 14, 2026, at Columbia New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Born on February 19, 1938, in Mount Vernon, New York, Andrew was the beloved son of Eva and Joseph Carnan.

Andrew’s life was a tapestry woven with dedication, warmth, and a passion for learning. A proud graduate of Edison Technical and Vocational High School in Mount Vernon, he went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. His military service was a testament to his commitment and love for his country.

Following his military service, Andrew dedicated 32 years of his professional life to General Motors in Sleepy Hollow, New York, where he retired as a respected inspector. His career was marked by diligence and precision—qualities that earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends.

Rooted in his faith, Andrew grew up attending the Church of God in Christ in Mount Vernon, New York. His young life was also enriched by his membership in the Supreme Gents Social Club, where he developed lifelong friendships and shared countless cherished memories.

Andrew’s enthusiasm for life was evident in his love of sports, particularly his unwavering support for the New York Knicks. He also enjoyed reading and playing Bingo and Pokeno, activities that brought him joy and provided opportunities to connect with family and friends.

Andrew was known for his friendliness, warmth, and insatiable thirst for knowledge. He was always eager to engage in conversation and genuinely interested in the people he met. His vibrant personality, generous spirit, and ability to make others feel welcome left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Andrew leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Ruby; his children, Jessica, Adriane Tanya and Kevin; his grandchildren, Jessiah, Jordan, Kelsey, Destiney, Jayda, Hailey and Jacquelyn; his sister, Magdalen Lewis; and his great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, extended family, and a host of dear friends who were touched by his kindness, generosity, and friendship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Joseph Carnan; his sister, Josephine Boone; and his beloved granddaughter, Brittany Crooks.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Skyview Rehabilitation Center and Columbia New York Presbyterian Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion, and support over the past 18 months.

Andrew’s legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, love of conversation, and the kindness he shared with everyone around him. His life was a gift to his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May he rest in eternal peace.

Andrew’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 11 Reverend G. Franklin Wiggins Plaza, Peekskill, NY 10566.
