Frank Antoine Merriweather Obituary

Frank Antoine Merriweather, a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, accomplishments, and love that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.


Frank was born on October 16, 1962, in Tarrytown, New York, to Pearl and Frank Merriweather. He was baptized at Mt. Lebanon Church in Peekskill, New York, under the guidance of Reverend Drake.


Frank is predeceased by his father, Frank Merriweather, both maternal and paternal grandparents, and a nephew. 


He graduated from Peekskill High School in 1980 and went on to attend Morrisville College before answering the call to serve his country.


Frank proudly served four honorable years in the United States Army. During his military career, he distinguished himself through his dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence. He worked in the JAG Dept. He was recognized with numerous awards, including Soldier of the Month and the Good Conduct Medal. While stationed in Germany, Frank studied the German language, embracing the opportunity to learn about another culture while serving his country.


Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Frank continued his education and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Empire. He later earned a degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling. Education, service, leadership, and helping others were important parts of Frank’s life, and he carried those values with him throughout the years. His accomplishments and recognitions reflected not only his abilities, but also his determination to make a difference in the lives of others.


Frank was a man who cherished his family and the memories they created together. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Sheila Merriweather; his loving daughter, Alaina Session, Peekskill, NY; granddaughter of Shaynna Session, Buffalo, NY, Peekskill; his beloved mother, Pearl Merriweather, Montgomery, Al. his sister, Dana (Gerald) Belin; his brother, Vernon Keith (Marcy) Merriweather; his brother, Ronald Bell; his sister, Shawnye (Ronald) Johnson; mother in law Patricia Haggerty, Greenville, New York, Brother, Jemel White (Deceased) Bonus sister Joi White, ATL, Bonus Brother Derrick Jackson of White Plains, Niece Kiara Merriweather, Bowie Md. nephew, Kerron Merriweather Casiano Cortlandt, niece Brandi Belin, Peekskill, niece Brittany Belin, Peekskill, niece, Azaria Johnson, D.C., nephew Jaden Johnson, Peekskill, NY, nephew, Christian Jones, Cortlandt, NY. Great-nephew, Boston Bowie, MD., A stepsons, Michael Holliman of Greenville, NY, his grandaughters, I Kali, Kamai, Marleigh, Greenville, NY. Frank’s life was defined by service, perseverance, family, and love. He was a man who experienced much, accomplished much, and left an impression on the people fortunate enough to know him. His family will remember not only the things he accomplished, but the moments shared, the stories told, the laughter, and the love that made him who he was.


Frank knew something about everything; that he was nicknamed the professor. His passions were sports, playing golf, swimming, and good food. He loved to travel and experience new things. He was the epitome of what living life was about.


Though he is no longer with us in person, Frank’s spirit and legacy will continue through his family, the lives he touched, and the memories he leaves behind. His journey may have come to an end, but the love he gave and the memories he created will remain forever.


May Frank Antoine Merriweather aka “The Governor” “Frank Star” rest peacefully, knowing that he was deeply loved, greatly respected, and will never be forgotten.


Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church of Peekskill, 1040 Main St, Peekskill, NY 10566 on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.


Celebration of Life to begin immediately following visitation at 1:00 pm.


Private Cremation Ceremony to Follow.
