Obituary of Benjamin Jerome Kilpatrick
Benjamin Jerome Kilpatrick was born on November 25, 1928 in Leon County, Tallahassee, Florida. Benjamin was the youngest child of Leroy and Flora Kilpatrick, He had 5 older siblings: Arthur, Burnis, Grace, Herbert, and Alex.
Benjamin worked as a short-order cook in Miami before moving to New York City in 1947. During that time, Benjamin met Hazel Melvina Tucker. They were married on December 17, 1949 and lived in Astoria and then Jamaica, Queens. Two children were born from their union, Kelvin Jerome and Tania Rosita.
Benjamin was a hardworking man and took pride in providing for his family. From 1967 until his retirement in 1990, Benjamin was employed by Northrop Grumman Corporation in Bethpage, Long Island. He began as a maintenance worker and was eventually promoted to Maintenance Supervisor.
In later years, Benjamin remarried, Vera Green and their union lasted 50 years until her transition on January 16, 2018.
Benjamin was hard working, laid-back, and fun loving. He was an avid reader, and stayed up-to date on politics, sports, as well as the current events of the day. Music was always surrounding him, weather in his home, car, or in the club.
Benjamin also loved his Polaroid camera. He carried one around for over 50 years and immensely enjoyed taking pictures of family and friends. He was loved across the miles, as evidenced by the numerous letters, pictures and cards that he frequently received from his nieces and nephews in California and Florida.
Benjamin quietly transitioned from this life to eternal rest with the Lord on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. He leaves to cherish his memory his son Kelvin J. Kilpatrick, daughter Tania Dickerson, son-in-law Claiborne Dickerson, Jr., grandsons Atiba K. Bell and Fatin A. Bell, great-grandchildren, Taurian Nunn, Jamier Broughton, Hazel Bell, Zhane Bell, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Memorial Service to be held at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home on Saturday, March 2, 2019. From 2:00pm to 5:00pm
Chapel service Officiated by Reverend Young to begin at 2:00pm
Repast/Funeral Reception to be held in Chapel Hill at the Carriage House 110 Chapel Hill Drive, Peekskill, NY 10566immediately following the services.
“THE TRIBUTE”
God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed those loving eyes and whispered, “Peace Be Thine.”
The weary hours and days of pain, the sleepless nights are passed. The ever patient, worn-out frame has found sweet rest at last.
God saw that you were getting weary. So, He did what He knew best. He came and stood beside you and whispered, “Come and Rest.”
You bid no one a last farewell. Not even a good-bye; you were gone before we knew it and only God knew why.
