Pat Garvey or as my husband Jorge always addressed him, "mon General" was the most unique, passionate, kind, loyal and boundlessly optimistic person we had the privilege to know. Our lives were always more interesting than most because we knew Pat Garvey. Whether it was history, the military, the arts, the Hudson River, ballet, politics, President Lincoln and on and on, our knowledge of any subject was expanded by Pat--the truest definition of a Renaissance man.
His public service and his drive to make the world a little better is his legacy; for if anyone who knew him volunteers, donates time or money, steps onto a board or cheerleads a worthy cause, Patrick Garvey lives on.
Pat always cautioned us with one of his many Garveyisms "in politics, in business and in life, never collect more enemies than are useful." Well, Pat lived that doctrine in spades because he spent his time on earth collecting friends and we are so grateful to have been part of the collection.
With deepest love,
Eileen and Jorge Yajure

No finer Marine than General Garvey. He used to say, "Pat, Karl. Pat" I replied, "Pat Garvey left the building a long time ago General." I never called my friend Pat. We will miss men like General Garvey. Miss him forever......"See you down Range General." from Marines who knew you well.

It has been more than 30 years since we last saw the Garvey's. We had come to know them through our dear friend, Sister Eileen Tierney, and we always enjoyed our meetings with them - a truly classy couple. I think the last such encounter was at the U.S. Marine Corp Scholarship Dinner back in the early 1980s. Given the length of time, it is interesting that Pat came to mind yesterday which prompted me to call Sister Eileen this morning. I was told she was at a funeral and we soon found out that it was Pat's. We were sorry that we weren't able to be there to pray with the family but we will keep Pat and the family in our prayers as they deal with this loss. Semper Fi'

Pat, you will be missed! You where my unintended consequence in life. Meeting you in Vegas was the beginning of an odyssey for both of us! You are my mentor and dear friend who pointed me in the right direction time and again. You put your faith in me and I will never forget you and your many words of wisdom, especially this quip which has proven to be so true - "there are no coincidences in life - it is just God's way of staying anonymous!" You have helped me down a wonderous and most successful path with your good words and your good guidance. Thank you for always being there for me! Semper Fi -Tony Piscitelli.

Dear Mrs. Garvey and family,
All our hearts were so sadden by yours and our loss of Pat. He was our stabilizer, meaning when you looked at him, he would always smile and say something funny or relaxing, whichever fit the moment. Pat always made me feel special, especially on the days that I would be having a harder time than usual. He was so knowledgeable about Parkinson’s, aware of current therapy and political situations within the Parkinson’s community. Pat would take the time to share and educate the group. He was a leader, listener, intelligent and a friend to all. I’m so glad to have had the honor of knowing such a grand man. All of us at Rock Steady will miss Pat.
Wishing you time to heal,
Love, Susan btc4

Sad news has been received of the passing of BGen Chevalier Patrick J. Garvey of the Priory of Saint Patrick. This Marine’s Marine, after a short illness, was called to a higher service on the 11th of July. The 11th of July, perhaps more than coincidentally, is a special date for Marines, ranking just below 10 November 1775, birthday of the American Continental Marines - by Act of the Second Continental Congress. In the reorganization of the government of the United States, under the new Constitution of the United States, the United States Marine Corps was established by an act of Congress, signed into Law by President John Adams on 11 July 1798 (1 Stat. 594). On that auspicious anniversary, … “another Marine reporting” … this one also, since January 1995, a Chevalier of the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, and a member of the Priory of Saint Patrick in the Hudson Valley of New York, most recently serving with the honor of Grand Officier. Among his many credits are, past-President of the National Maritime Historical Society, Life Member of the New York Council of the Navy League of the United States, and special service at the US Naval War College -- to name but a few. As Marines say, "No Better Friend..."

I met Pat while working for the Paramount Center for the Arts when Pat was a Board member. We developed a friendship and working relationship apart from that and later worked together for the Lincoln Depot Foundation as well as on his personal matters. What an outstanding man! Despite his seemingly tough exterior I saw a sensitive, caring and loving person. His love for Liz and his moral and ethical standings were an inspiration to me. I will miss Pat but feel blessed to have known him. My sincere condolences to Liz, Dennis and Sharon. Rest well, my friend.

So sorry to hear of Pat’s passing. He and his wife Liz were reassuring fixtures at our Westchester Rock Steady Boxing class in Mount Kisco and will be missed. He was a quiet guy, but he had a twinkle in his eye and a jig in his heart that made him a pleasure to stand side by side with in our ongoing fight against Parkinsons. My condolences to Liz and the rest of their family.

Pat Garvey was one of the most competent officers I have ever had the pleasure of serving with. He was a leader who never had to tell his subordinates how behave: he taught by example.
He possessed that rare combination of intelligence, determination, loyalty, a sense of humor, and humility. It was a great honor to participate in the ceremony promoting him to the rank of Brigadier General many years ago.
Thanks Pat for all you have given us, and thanks Liz for sharing him with us all these years.

I loved Pat Garvey; not complicated.
Above all I will miss his clear eyed guidance and ever-present grin. Both emanating from a genuine concern for others that easily blended with a sheer delight in the stuff of life. How many of us will also miss Pat's telling of his latest "Caper". I will never hear the word uttered again without thinking of Pat Garvey. We shared a few like the "Scenic Hudson Regatta" (the Japanese Eight sank), the Brady for City Council (that was a Master Garvey Caper for sure), the Lincoln Train Station renovation, and of course puling off the first Peekskill St Patrick's Day Parade. There are so many more.
What a guy, what a life. The ultimate "Caper" indeed !
