Obituary of James Henry Ferris
James H. Ferris 64, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 in his home with his family by his side.
Jim was born April 11, 1955 to the late Anne and Leo Ferris in Peekskill, NY.
He attended Hendrick Hudson High School and after high school became a master carpenter and career firefighter for the City of Peekskill. Jim owned a contracting business, Ferris Carpentry for 30 years and was a career firefighter for 31 years.
Aside from being a fireman and contractor Jim enjoyed volunteering and coaching. Jim was an active member of Peekskill Lapolla Little League for many years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gayle Lynette Ferris, his 3 children Daniel(Tina) Ferris, Jenna Ferris and Nicholas(Jenet) Ferris Sr. and his 2 sisters Judy Curtis and Janet(Matthew) Balch. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren Lamar Kingwood Jr., Nicholas Ferris Jr. and Noah James Ferris. Additionally he is survived by his father and mother in law Willie Gaskins and Emilie Gaskins and brother in law Kenny Gaskins. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews as well as other relatives, close friends and “adopted sons”.
He is pre deceased by his mother Anne Ferris, father Leo Ferris, brother Robert Ferris and brother in law Bill Curtis.
Jim loved telling stories and meeting his friends for coffee in the morning. He loved to play golf and go fishing. He enjoyed being outside, working around his house and spending time with his grandchildren.
Jim was loved by many people and will always be dearly remembered in our hearts.
Memorial Donations may be made in Jim’s name to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, or The American Cancer Society
Memorial Service Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home 414 Washington Street Peekskill, NY 10566 on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Chapel Service will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 11:30 AM.
Interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery in Montrose, NY.
