Obituary of James W. Meaney, Jr
Jim passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Hudson Valley Hospital, he was 78 years old.
Born in the Bronx on March 30, 1942, Jim grew up in Croton and graduated from Croton-Harmon High school in 1961, but Garrison was home for the last 48 years.
Jim was an owner of South Street Materials and a 22-year member of IUOE Local 137. He enjoyed life to the fullest. Some of his favorite passions were boating, golfing, and restoring his 1957 Ford pickup truck with his grandsons.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, James W. and Phoebe (Gallaher) Meaney and sisters Ruthann Besson and Nancy Sheehan.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Donna (Smith) Meaney, children Kelly (Richard) Kilmer, James W. Meaney III (Claudine Cornelis) and Sean (Jennifer) Meaney. Grandchildren Rebecca (Erik) Brierley, Jonathan (Krissie) Kilmer, Richard Kilmer, Dylan and Jack Meaney and Sean Meaney Jr. Sisters Patricia (Kenneth) Johnsen and Diane Lewis, mother-in-law Doris Smith, sisters-in-law Carol Howe and Barbara Amodei and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim passed away from complications from Covid-19 due to the Coronavirus. He was laid to rest in a private service on April 21. There will be a celebration of Jim’s life at a later date.
