Obituary of Mary Lois

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary (Yglesias) Lois, a long-time resident of Peekskill, NY. Mary was born July 14, 1913 in Castro, Spain to Tomas and Pura Yglesias. Her parents and brothers Manny and Jerry predeceased her. Her immediate family moved to the US when she was 13, first settling in Philadelphia where her father was a stone mason. She eventually met another stone mason, Joe Lois, who coincidentally was born and raised a few miles from her family in Spain. They eventually married and settled in Peekskill where they had a successful general contracting business. They raised three boys, Gene, Joe, Jr. and Robert. Mary’s husband passed in 2001.

Mary spent her life being philanthropic, sponsoring many individuals to come over from Spain, live in the family home and help them find careers.

She was known for her positive nature and her hospitality throughout her adult years. She was active in many local clubs and was an avid dancer until she was 104.

Mrs. Lois will be missed by her seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Graveside Ceremony will be held at Assumption Cemetery on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 11:00am.

In light of the recent worldwide occurrences dealing with the outbreak of COVID-19, the family of Mary Lois would like to have her Burial Services reserved for immediate Family.
