Dr. Swender taught generations of medical students and Pediatric residents by example what it means to be a caring physician. That it's not enough to know the science, you need to know your patients, their families, and approach them all with compassion and empathy. He taught me how to gently deliver bad news and to be there for the family of a dying child. I feel blessed to have known him. So sorry for your loss!
