Obituary of Patricia D. Sharrock

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Patricia Doris Sharrock was born on October 30, 1939, to Arthur and Ernestine Middleton in Harlem, NY. She was the oldest of their 4 children. Sister to David Middleton, Ellen Bullock who have preceded her in death, and surviving brother Robert Middleton “Uncle Bobby”.

Patricia attended PS 186, Stint Junior High School, and completed her HS education with Empire Online Program. She went on to complete her Associate Degree at Mercy College.

Her career varied from factory work, waitressing, nursing aid, and counseling. Eventually, she left the Bronx and moved to Peekskill to continue her career at Montrose VA Hospital. She worked at the VA Hospital for 20 years fulfilling many positions. Before retiring, her most notable position was as a Substance Abuse Counselor. A role that earned her many awards for her hard work and dedication at the VA as well as the community of Peekskill. After retiring, she moved to Poughkeepsie and began working for various community organizations while simultaneously volunteering at the YWCA. Ms. Pat, as she is affectionately known as, has left a footprint from Harlem to The Bronx, from Peekskill to Poughkeepsie and all in between. She spent her final days in Knightdale, NC, and thereto, she left her mark.

She loved music and any opportunity she had to dance, she would get up and do so. Traveling always brought her joy, she looked for opportunities to visit friends and family. She loved to read and watch movies. She immersed herself into the African community, wearing beautiful head wraps and garments, learning all she could about her heritage and the traditions of our culture. The rhythms of the African drums were “healing to her soul” as she would say. Above all things, she loved family functions.

Patricia was a mother to Maxine Sharrock who preceded her in death and leaving to mourn, Priscilla Taylor, Leon Sharrock, Renee Jordan, and Natasha Bannister and son in law Eric Bannister. She was a Grandmother to Rayshawn Sharrock, Brittney Sharrock, Nicole Sharrock-Hayes, Jaysiah Jordan, Miracle Sullivan, Monique Peterson, Shanayia Hester-Macias, Aliyyah Sharrock-Reid, Rahmel Carr, Terrell Carr, and Bryce Bannister. As well as the Great Grandmother to 28 children. She also leaves nieces, nephews, and cousins to mourn. She has been a mother, a sister, a friend, a counselor, and a confidant to countless others who will all miss her.

Patricia, Pat, Mommy, Grandma, Grams, Auntie will be missed wholeheartedly.

We will all rejoice knowing she has taken her place in heaven.
