Obituary of Albert M. Tice

Please share a memory of Albert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Albert M. Tice Sr. passed away at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on January 11, 2021, at the age of 80 due to the Covid 19 virus.

Al is survived by his daughter, Amy Fromant, and her husband, Jason; his son Albert Jr. and his wife Jennifer; his identical twin brother, Delavan Tice, Jr. and his wife Rose; his two grandchildren, Matthew and Sean and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is predeceased by his beautiful wife, Elizabeth (2019); mother and father, Florence and Delavan Tice; and his sisters, Florence and Shirley.

Al was born in Montrose, NY on December 10th, 1940. He graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School, class of 1958. He then went off to Westchester Community College to earn his AAS degree in Electrical Engineering.

Soon after, he would meet the love of his life and eventual wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Kenyon.  They would marry on July 15, 1967.  Later that year, they would move to Washington DC where he became a Traffic Engineer Supervisor for AT&T.  Amy (1969) and Al (1973) were born soon after and the Tice family was complete.  In 1980, he would transfer back to NY and settle in Cortlandt Manor, continuing his career at AT&T in White Plains as a Sales Supervisor.  He served in this capacity up until his retirement in December 1989 at the age of 49.

Simultaneous to his day job at AT&T, in June 1984, he and Liz decided to start their own business, forming a corporation called E.A.Tice, LTD. They took the bold leap to become entrepreneurs and would open up the first of 4 Laundromats, as well as owning several apartment buildings. They went on to become quite successful in these ventures. Al’s ability to treat ALL people with kindness and respect was an absolute key to his success, all the while, setting a tremendous example to his children. In 1996, he partnered with his son in starting a Drain Service that’s still thriving today.

In the early 2000s, he and Liz decided to slow it down and go the route of the “snowbirds” and travel yearly back and forth from NY to Sarasota, Florida.  They had a wonderful collection of friends at the Village Plaza Condos.  Each week they would gather at the “Plazoo” to catch up and just enjoy each other’s company.  His plan was to move to Sarasota full time in 2021.

He was a member of the Cortlandt Engine Company from the age of 22 up until his passing.  It was a true joy for him to hang out with the guys at the Firehouse or go on fishing trips or work at the Bazaar.  He was also a member of the Peekskill Lions Club, being named Lion of the year in 1991/1992 and serving as President in 1993/1994.  He was also a member of the Model A Ford Club in Katonah.

He loved his hobbies.  His favorite thing to do had to be fixing things.  He also loved to fish and crab (especially with his Grandson).  In his younger years, he would skeet shoot and hunt. Another passion was old cars. He once restored a 1977 Trans Am to original condition, actually doing his own paint job. That car would take 2nd Place at the Trans Am Nationals in Dayton, Ohio. He also held a private pilot license and even owned his own airplane at one point.

Albert Tice, Sr. was a devoted husband and father and always took great care of his family.  He was a wonderful, kind, generous, hardworking, give you the shirt off his back kind of person. Al had an easy, natural ability to make everyone feel welcome and included.  He absolutely LOVED to lend a helping hand and would never look for anything in return.  You could ALWAYS count on Al.  His positive energy and zest for life were absolutely infectious. He was loved by so many and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
