Obituary of Salvatore Scaramellino

Please share a memory of Salvatore to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Salvatore Agnello Scaramellino, a Cortlandt Manor resident, passed away peacefully in his home, January 27, 2021. He was 93.

He was a man who touched many lives - known as Pop, Grandpa, Sal, and Mr. Scaramellino. He married our Mom, Margaret Galati Scaramellino, who passed in1998. He leaves his five children, Florence (Len) Snarr, of Patterson, N.Y.; Thomas (Patty) Scaramellino of Palm Springs, C.A.; Lisa (George) Ludington of Aiken S.C; Gina (Paul) DiPaterio, & Anthony (Liliane) Scaramellino, both of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.

In addition to his five children, he is survived by twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Our Dad was born February 10, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York. His parents were Raffaella & Agnello “Joe” Scaramellino. He had pre-deceased siblings: Anthony, who died serving in WWII (Battle of Iwo Jima), Francis Scaramellino, Michael Scaramellino, Louise Emery, and is survived by a sister Helen Christian. The family settled in Peekskill, N.Y., opening The Sorrento Restaurant on Railroad Avenue in 1947.

Our Dad joined the Navy, Seaman First Class, on January 18, 1945; he was immensely proud to serve his country.

He was proud to be a lifetime member of the Peekskill Elks Club and the FBI Marine Corps Association as well as a member of the Assumption church.

He was a self-taught pianist and enjoyed playing the keyboard to a crowd. He had a love of sports and spent many days on the golf course. He was a huge fan of the Yankees and the Jets. He had a love of gardening, growing vegetables, and even plowing snow. He was also a fantastic handyman; he could fix anything, and he usually did!

Our Dad and Mom continued the family business owning The Sorrento Restaurant in Peekskill, NY, until 1992. Dad was known as “The Kissing Host” always greeting guests with a smile and a kiss. He enjoyed meeting people and made many lifelong friends. It was here, at the family business, we learn many life lessons. Our Dad’s love, his laugh, the example he set, these memories we have will always stay with us. Thank you, dad, for all these gifts. Dad, we will miss you. Until we see you again, Your loving Children.
