Obituary of Eleanor L. Cococcia

Eleanor “Ellie” Cococcia entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.  She was 91 years of age.

Ellie was born in Peekskill, NY to Annunziata (nee Astrologo) and Alberto Cococcia on March 12, 1930. She graduated from Peekskill High School and studied at Plattsburgh State Teachers College to attain her undergraduate degree.  She received her master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University.

Ellie taught Home Economics at Lakeland High School for 25 years and resided for most of her life in Garrison before moving back home to Peekskill.  She was an active member of The Church of the Assumption, as well as the Assumption entertainment committee, and the Columbiettes. 

Eleanor is pre-deceased by her loving parents, and her four siblings Adeline Ford, Genevieve Martini, Albert Cococcia, and Ronald Cococcia.

She is survived by 11 nieces and nephews, 7 great-nieces and nephews, 2 loving sisters-in-law, as well as many godchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Church of the Assumption, 920 1st Street, Peekskill.

Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 1055 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor.

The family would like to thank the staff at Drum Hill Senior Living Community as well as her personal aides for taking such good care of Ellie for the past six years.
