Obituary of Yolanda Cairl
Yolanda Cairl, affectionately known as “Nana”, “Yoli”, “Aunt Yoli”, and “Mom”, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2022 at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Hospital Veterans Home. She was 96 years old.
Yolanda was born on July 23, 1925 in Yorktown Heights, NY to Antonio and Catherine (Lazzaro) Criniti. After graduating from Yorktown High School in 1944, she trained as a nurse at Montefiore Hospital.
It was around this time she met her husband, Daniel Cairl, and the couple were married on May 12, 1946 at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, in New York, NY. They lived on Post Avenue in the Inwood neighborhood for 10 years while she worked as a nurse at Jewish Memorial Hospital. Shortly after giving birth to her sons, Ralph and Dennis, the family moved north to Peekskill, NY, where her siblings were living, to raise her sons along with their large extended family.
She was a cherished member of her family and community, extending herself in all directions to help anyone who needed it; she was kind and charitable to friends, family and strangers alike. Yolanda retired from The Field Home Residence in 1986, where she had worked as a nurse for 30 years.
Yolanda is predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years, Daniel Cairl, and her 5 siblings, Josephine (Criniti) Oubina, Mary (Criniti) Biacchi, Dominick Criniti, Rose Criniti, and Jimmy Criniti.
She is survived by her sons, Ralph (Maureen) Cairl, of Myrtle Beach, SC and Dennis Cairl of Cortlandt Manor, NY. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Kelly (Rick) Angelo of Southington, CT, Jim (Vic) Cairl of Peekskill, NY, Danny (Paula) Cairl of Sandown, NH, Stephanie (Jed) Varricchio of Beacon, NY, and Tim (Sandra) Cairl of Hopewell Junction, NY. She is also survived by her 16 great-grandchildren, Callan, Cayden, Madeline, Ava, Finn, Kalee, Mason, Mikayla, Makenzie, Morgan, Connor, Nolan, Will, Jackson, Jovie and Greyson.
Raised by Italian immigrants, in a family of 6 children, Yolanda was taught how to cook at a very young age. As an adult, her amazing meals became the centerpiece of every family gathering, and she truly expressed her love by feeding people. That is to say, everyone was welcome at her table.
