George S. Sawler of Cortlandt Manor, NY passed away on March 5, 2016. He was 86 years old. Mr. Sawler was a lifetime Union Carpenter for Local 53, White Plains and the Fund Administrator to the Westchester County District Council of Carpenters. He was born on February 19, 1930 in White Plains, NY to Linwood and Ola Barkhouse Sawler. George served in the US Army from 1947 to 1949. On May 14, 1950 he married Clara Mosher at St. John’s Church in White Plains. He was a life member of the Eastside Engine Co. 3, White Plains. He also belonged to the Nor-Cort and Verplanck Senior Citizens. He is survived by his wife, Clara Sawler of Cortlandt Manor and five children; Barbara (Jerry) Layefsky of Cortlandt Manor, Donna (Jim) Agosta of Peekskill, Sharon Sawler of Montrose, Brian (Judy) Sawler of Weaverville, NC and Lori (Tim) DePalma of Bethel, CT. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Predeceased by a son, Scott Sawler. Visitation is Monday, from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, Peekskill, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, 11am at St. Columbanus Church, Cortlandt Manor. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc.
