Obituary of John A. Snyder
John “Big John” “Johnny” Snyder passed away suddenly on Monday, January 24, 2022, at the age of 68 years.
John had a larger-than-life personality and an ability to make literally anyone laugh out loud. John loved his family, his friends, golf, and a nice full glass of scotch and ice at 5:00 in the afternoon accompanied by a cigar.
Traditions were also very important to John whether it was Thanksgiving at his brother Mike’s every year, helping his children to place the star on top of the family Christmas tree, or sitting down with a crossword puzzle any chance he got.
John had a passion for coaching which fed his competitive spirit. He genuinely cared for all the kids he coached, teaching them how to play the game correctly was as important to him as the desire to win. John also had a heart full of love for the many pets he had over the years. He liked to say that he was never drinking alone while he had his dogs and cats by his side.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Fran, daughter; Kristina, son; Brian, and son-in-law; Jonathan Rayer. His siblings, David & Barbara, Mary & Mike Skrip, Michael & Patty, Thomas & Susan, Peter, Tina & Chris Shanahan, Carlo Basile as well as many nieces, nephews, and throngs of friends.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Cortlandt Yacht Club: 238 Kings Ferry Road Montrose, NY 10548 on Friday, February 4, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher’s Church 3094 Albany Post Road Buchanan, NY 10511 on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.
