Obituary of Edward Martin

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Edward James Martin of Buchanan, NY passed away on May 22, 2022, at the age of 84. The son
of Edward and Lillian (Storch) Martin, he was born in the Bronx, NY on September 10, 1937.

He attended New York City Catholic Schools before enlisting in The United States Air Force in 1956
serving with the Strategic Air Command for four years. Soon after Edward started his career
with the United States Postal Service working out of Manhattan until his retirement in 1992.

After retirement, he worked for many years at Suncoast Video in The Jefferson Valley Mall
where he could share his love of movies of all genres from the 1930’s to the present. He was
sort of a movie connoisseur and customers would ask for him by name. He then officially
retired from the workforce in 2009 and spent his days hanging out at McDonald’s drinking
coffee, bull whacking, or reading a book when the Yankees were not on.

He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Harold Martin, and his beloved dog Bo.

He is survived by his daughters Denise and Jennifer Martin of Buchanan, NY; his sister
Margaret (Richard) Edwards of Naples, FL, and his 3 nephews Brian, Brad, and Brett,

Although they don't know it, he is also survived by the New York Yankees.

Anyone who knew Edward knew his love and passion for the New York Yankees started as
a young boy living in the Bronx practically around the corner from Yankee Stadium. He would
tell stories of him and his friends watching the visiting teams practice and the players would call
them over to get them a beer as they practiced on those hot summer days. He loved LOVED to
keep the box scores for almost every single game. He also kept stats of every single Yankee
player. He loved everything Yankees and would wear all of his New York Yankee garb almost
every day for every occasion. He also loved watching and feeding the birds. He was an avid reader,
loved all types of music, and of course all types of movies. Over the years he amassed a large
library of books, music, and movies.

He will also be remembered as a one-of-a-kind, fun-loving, easy-going man that worked hard
and loved his family. He will always be remembered by all who knew him. Unfortunately, due to
major health problems he had to reside at the New York State Veterans Home in Montrose, NY
where he received excellent care until the Covid lockdowns in March of 2020.

He went from getting take-out food daily, walking around the facility to go outside or in the lobby to
read and talk to people to being isolated in his room.  This led to complete atrophy and
sped up his dementia from inactivity and everyday stimulation. If it wasn’t for the New York
State Nursing Home Covid debacle Edward would be alive today and enjoying the first-place
Yankees while keeping box scores, slowly walking the halls with his Yankees walker, and eating
his favorite daily snacks. The state he loved failed him but he knew the staff were only following
orders and did their best under unprecedented orders from the disgraced former governor of
New York State.

There will be a private service at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, NY
