Obituary of Mary McDonald

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary McDonald was born February 4, 1941 (Bowdon, GA) and entered into rest the morning of Monday, May 14, 2018. Mary was surrounded by her family when she transitioned peacefully at the New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Peekskill, New York.

Mary was the loving daughter of the late Lillian Gibbs and Booker T. Smith. Mary moved to New York in 1960 where she met and married the love of her life, Evans McDonald Jr.

Mary lived in Port Chester, New York for 14 years and later moved to Cortlandt, New York where she resided until her death. Mary was blessed to retire from the American Cyanamid company; she was a dedicated employee for 24 years. She also worked for a number of years at Lifesavers in Port Chester, NY.

In 1976, Mary received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was very active in sharing the good news to all that would listen. She was a devout member of the Living Word Christian church, where she could be heard reciting one of her favorite quotes – “I’m blessed and highly favored.” Mary also spent a number of years attending the Redeeming Love Christian church. She loved to garden, read and did some modeling. Mary was always on the go and often found behind the wheel of her car -- she loved driving around from one place to another. Mary was truly a blessing to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Mary leaves to cherish her legacy, her husband of 56 years, Evans McDonald Jr; two sons, Gerome McDonald of Arlington TX, Eric McDonald of Riverside CA and Willie Gilmore of Fayetteville NC. Mary is also survived by her five grandchildren, Sean, Robert Evans and Cystina McDonald, Eric Prescott and Jason Brown and a great granddaughter, Jasoni Brown. Sisters Linda McDonald (George) and Jessie Bardliving (James) of Stamford CT; Carolyn Smith of Bowden GA; Brenda Ward of Wappinger Falls, NY and one brother, Glen Smith of Atlanta GA; and a host of great grands, nieces and nephews.
