John (Sonny) Douglas was called by his Lord on Sunday, August 21 st , 2022. He was surrounded by his family and passed peacefully.
John was born in Caughnawaga on December 29, 1928, to Louise and Louis Douglas, predeceased by his son Darryl, and is survived by his wife Lena and son Keith. He will lovingly be remembered by his grandchildren Christopher, Ryan, Corinne and Nicole. He will be greatly missed by his Great-grandchildren Emerlee, Ensley and
Averie, and all those who made countless memories with him. Everyone who knew him loved his smile and infectious laugh. He loved his Mohawk heritage and spoke his language fluently.
He joined the Ironworkers Union in 1947 and was a proud member of Local 361. He will receive his 75-year pin on October 6 th, 2022. The steel he raised would shape the skyline of New York. The three projects he was most proud of were the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Madison
Square Garden and the World Trade Center.
He retired from ironwork in 1993 to be with his greatest joy, his grandchildren. He would take them to Playland, bowling, ice-skating, golfing or anything their little hearts desired. He never missed any sporting event of his grandchildren. He loved to travel with his grandchildren, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, and so many cruises. Every Holiday he loved to play cards and Po-Ke-No with his grandchildren.
When he was an ironworker, in the summer, every Friday he would travel back to Canada to be with his family and drive back Sunday night to be on the job Monday morning. He could always be found on the golf course with his ironworker buddies. He loved playing hockey and
coaching Little League. He was a long-time active member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society.
