Obituary of Derek J. Tudor
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Derek J. Tudor on February 24, 2023, at the age of 85.
He was born to the late Albert and Mary (McGreevy) Tudor in Shrewsbury, England on March 18, 1937. The family immigrated to the United States in 1951, first settling at Bear Mountain with Marjorie and Whitney Travis. Derek began working at Clemente Cleaners in Peekskill and then found himself a job a Joe's Gas Station, where he met his future wife Sue who lived down the road. The two were married on April 23, 1960, and shared 62 years of marriage until her passing in November 2022. Together they raised three children and many Dobermans.
Derek was a jack of many trades. He was a fire driver for the City of Peekskill, worked for Gilbert's Auctions, and tended to many handyman projects. He was honored to serve his country in the United States Army and National Guard for six years. He was also proud to have been a New York State Trooper from 1963 to 1989. During his time with Troop K in Hawthorne, NY, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, and retired as a Senior Investigator. Following his career, he became Director of Security for Cablevision in Yonkers, NY for 14 years.
He strongly believed that if you loved what you were doing, you never really would 'work' a day in your life. He could find fun anywhere and make the best of everything. He enjoyed everything to do with cars, especially Corvettes, photography, gadgets, gardening (especially roses), and spending time with friends after work. He was a life member of the Garrison Volunteer Ambulance Corps. He was always off helping others with odds and ends, never looking for anything in return.
He had a great sense of humor, always ready with a joke. We were lucky to have had him for the time we did.
He is predeceased by his brother Michael Tudor and his sisters Marjorie (Whitney) Travis and Shirley Tudor.
He is survived by his children Derek Tudor, Gilbert Steedley, and Rodney (Kristi) Tudor. He will be lovingly missed by his grandchildren Victoria (Tom) Cole, Derek Tudor, Amir Daniels, and Jessica Tudor, and his great-grandchildren Madison Cole, Wyatt Cole, and Isabelle Cole. He will be remembered as well by his brother Brian Tudor. He will also be sorely missed by his four-legged companion, Beamer.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY.
