Obituary of Yvonne E. Swann
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our mother, Yvonne Idita Edmead Swann on April 24, 2023, at the age of 75.
Born in St. Kitts and Nevis to the late Walter James and Lillian Iola (Mardenborough) Edmead, on December 6, 1947, Yvonne came to the United States at the age of 17. She started her life in New York, first in Brooklyn and then moving to The Bronx. After meeting her love, Richard Henry Swann, Sr., in nursing school, they married on June 24, 1972, and spent many wonderful years together until his passing. They chose to start a family and raise their two boys, Rich and AJ, in Peekskill, NY.
Yvonne also dedicated over 40 years to her nursing career at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY, retiring at the age of 70.
Hard work and dedication to her family were always evidenced by her choice to work nights so that she could take her boys to practices and games and be as present in their lives as possible. She enjoyed traveling and took the boys on many trips. While at home, her life was focused on her family, her career, and watching the Yankees as often as she could.
She was a kind and gentle soul who spent her life helping others in any way she was able. She was very much loved in this life and will always be spoken of in fond remembrance.
Mom, we know this is just bye for now and we will do our best to take care of ourselves.
In addition to her parents and husband, Yvonne is predeceased by her brothers Neville Edmead, Henry Royston Edmead, and Winston Edmead; her sisters Gladys Edmead, Eileen Edmead, and Blanche Walker.
She is survived by her sons Richard Henry Swann,Jr. and Arthur (Shelley) Swann; her brothers, Louis Charles (Elaine) Edmead, Eustace Edmead; her sisters, Cynthia Agnew and Ursille Adams; sister-in-laws, Stephanie Edmead, Mary Edmead, and Janet Burgess; and brother-in-law Robert (Thelma) Swann; her step-daughter Stacey Swann and her daughter Sydney Johnson; as well as her step-son Jeffrey Kinds and his son LJ and their respective families. She will also be remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Most of all, her life was touched by her beloved grandson, Trey. They shared a special bond and the pride and love she had for him will live on forever in his heart.
