Charles Joseph Sally Obituary

Charles Joseph Sally Obituary

Charles, or Charlie as he was affectionately called, was born and raised in the Bronx, NY.  His father, John Sally, and mother Margaret O’Neill Sally, both deceased, immigrated from Ireland before starting a family here in the States.  The family included his brother, John “Jackie” and sister Lucille, both deceased, along with his surviving sisters Ann Sally Quaranta and Mary Sally.

Charlie was a World War II veteran serving honorably with the 45th Infantry Division.  After the war, Charlie joined the New York Police Department before a long tenure with the New York Fire Department. He retired in 1979 after 24 years with Ladder Company 19 as a Fireman 1st Grade after suffering an injury during a fire rescue.  He was also a Life member of the Peekskill Elks Club.

Charlie’s marriage to Mary Morris Sally at Assumption Church in 1966 was a long and loving one until her passing in 2000.  A devoted Catholic, Charlie lived in the home they shared in Peekskill up until his recent passing.  Charlie certainly had the gift of gab and loved to spend time with his friends and family, especially his lifelong childhood friend, Fred “Freddy” Beuchert, also deceased.

Charlie is also survived by his godson Frank Quaranta and goddaughter Lisa Cutts along with his nieces and nephews Lisa Greene, James Quaranta, Bob Morris, Diane Mohr, and Karen Cortese along with their respective families.
