Obituary of Mary C. 'Kathleen' Mulvaney

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Catherine Mulvaney departed this earth surrounded by her loving family on October 16, 2023, just days after her 92nd birthday. Known to
family and friends as Kathleen, she had a kind heart and a pleasant disposition no matter the circumstances.
Kathleen was born on October 8, 1931, to Bernard and Margaret Gallagher on the East Side of Manhattan. As the eldest of seven girls, she was the big sister to Peg, Bernadette “Bunny”, Eileen, Terry, Jo, and Betty and carried out that role throughout her life. In her early twenties, she met John James “Bud” Mulvaney, a young man from the West Side of Manhattan. They were married for 58 years, in sickness and in health, until his passing.

Left to cherish her memory are their son John and his wife Linda Mulvaney, daughter Maureen Kurtz, son Thomas and his wife Suzanne Mulvaney, as well as grandchildren Matthew and his wife Diane Mulvaney, James Mulvaney, Kelly Kurtz, and Marina and McKayla Mulvaney. Also, treasured great-grandchildren Joseph and Olivia Mulvaney. Devoted sisters Eileen Mauromatis, Terry Skahill, Jo and her husband Kevin Lynch, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews, will remember her fondly.

Her parents, her devoted husband Bud, her son-in-law Bill Kurtz as well as her sisters Peg Brannigan, Bunny Kelleher, and Betty Kilfeather predeceased her.

A NYC girl at heart, Kathleen never slowed down her quick-paced walk. She adapted to life in the country by getting her driver’s license as an adult after moving from the Bronx to Putnam Valley. She worked at the Putnam Valley Library for 25 years until retiring as the Assistant Director and moving to Florida. When it was time for her to move back North after Bud died, she found a welcoming community at Villa St. Francis.

Practicing her faith was important to her. She enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in the Franciscan community as a lay associate. We are confident that she is singing with the angels now.

There will not be a public viewing per Kathleen’s wishes. Friends are invited to join the family for the funeral and burial to celebrate her life.

Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 10:30 am at St. Columbanus Church, 122 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY.

Entombment to follow at Hillside Cemetery, 1033 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY.
