First, I know that Mathew will be sorely missed. Not just by his son, Mathew Jr., and Daughter-in-Law,
Aristellie, but by me, his neighbor while he resided at his home on Winthrop Dr., Cortlandt Manor. Mathew was a man of the Law. All Law, including the Zoning and Use regulations of our neighborhood. He knew the value of good law and wanted to keep our homes in compliance. Twenty or so years ago, my sister-in-law was at a rough spot in her life, and lived in my home till she got back on her feet. Mathew noticed her coming and going. So, one day as she walked down the street, he drove to her and offered her a ride. Once she was in his car, he was all questions. You see, he wanted to know if she was
a "tenant". Was I renting my basement? Was I violating the Zoning and Use Code? I never confronted him about this incident because I was actually glad that he wanted the Law enforced and had an interest in preserving our little corner of this world.
On another note, I have a guitar that was once his.
It needed some work, but I got it back "in shape". I was very happy when he came to see me play it with my band at the Tenampa Restaurant in Croton. I tried, but could never get Mathew back into playing music. I'll bet he has a HARP now.
Rest in Peace, my friend.
