I'll never forget the time we were camping, and we were sitting around chatting by the campfire. All of a sudden, these kids from a neighboring site spotted you and did a double take. You put your finger up to your lips as if to say, "Shhh, Santa's on vacation. Let this be our little secret." They were very respectful of Santa's privacy but sooo excited to go tell their parents.

My sincere condolences to the Watson family. Bob was an angel on earth and I feel privileged and humbled to have known him. Bob always had time to answer questions or point you in the right direction. He was gentle, supportive, and a kind hearted man. He treated everyone with respect and dignity. I will always keep him in my heart. May Bob’s memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

The best supervisor! When I arrived to Westchester County Probation, I had at least six years of experience. Despite the knowledge I already had, Bob made sure he was the one to go “in the field” with me. He was just different from others. I often wanted him to return to probation after retirement as a consultant to teach all the new coming about the “balancing theory”. Thank you for attending my wedding twenty years ago and showing my bonus daughter Santa does exist
My sincere condolences to the Watson family. Your husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, family, and friend was a great man that has instilled how to service others.

Bob Watson, was such a sincere authentic man. Only gave positive and kind energy. Loved having him on the job to be an example of how to be a decent human being while doing your job. He will never be forgotten and his beautiful smile will always be remembered.

My condolences to Sue, Kim, Bryan and Danny and the rest of the family. Bob truly was a remarkable man.
Those of us who had the privilege of working with him will always remember him for his memorable sayings, which we affectionately called "Wattyisms."
Bob often said that working in Probation was a "calling" for him, not just a job. He frequently spoke about the "Gift of Office," perhaps the most meaningful of all his Wattyisms. Though religious in origin, this concept perfectly applies to the profession we have chosen and the “office” we hold.
The human tendency is to make an “office” into a privileged position, a position of power over others. Bob would point this out with his characteristic side smile and remind us of the true meaning of the Gift of Office.
The value system embodied by Jesus does not allow for a focus on position and power. “Gifts of Office” are about servanthood and empowering others. Rest in Peace, Bob.
The following are some of the classic “Watty-isms”
Sometimes we have to shake the tree
We are our own worst enemy
They’re “underwhelmed” .......(my personal favorite)
Run from me and your running from the Judge
Sometimes in this business right is wrong, and wrong is right
In DWI we win even when we lose
The wave of “the present”
Therapeutic warrant
Therapeutic cuffing
Therapeutic arrest
We are walking warrants
We need to educate the judges
It’s the end of an era
Always wave –when in doubt
I had to get cute with the judge
What are they going to do to me? Send me to Vietnam?
I screwed myself as usual
Sometimes we are the biggest enablers
I am G.O.D (Good Orderly Direction)
…in my therapeutic way
These handcuffs have a lot of history
I’ve made over 2,000 arrests
I’ve made more arrests than most police officers
Spread it around
I like to explain things
I’m a man to man guy
Paralysis has set in....... (comes in a close 2nd)
I have to go decontaminate the trainees........... (3rd favorite)
This is a vacation and not a job for some of us
Maybe we are only glorified apes
Listen to me, I know my s**t!
We do it all here
I know what my people do
Listen, you might learn something here
I am a credentialed alcohol/substance abuse counselor, licensed by the state and the nation
I probably trained your counselor
Balanced in all things
We’ve got a situation here
Let’s prime the pump

Dear Kim and family, to those of us at Franklin Avenue. Your dad will always remain Santa. The pure magic that he brought to the children and staff has never been equalled I can’t imagine anybody else as Santa, he will remain the one and only. I was privileged to meet him on more than one occasion as your dad and he was such a fine gentleman. The world has lost one of the good ones, impossible shoes to fill. May your memories bring you solace, beautiful thoughts of him bring you peace, and always remember the love because that never ends.

We were fellow Vietnam War veterans, who both served with the 101st Airborne Division, in the Republic of South Vietnam (different years).
Bob served as a Combat Medic (1969). *** I served with L Company Airborne Rangers (1971-1972) and the 46th Company Special Forces (1972-1973).
Bob was just a PO, when I entered the Dept. and was with the Warrants Unit (Hand - O'Shea - Oldi - Candarelli). *** He subsequently rose in the ranks, to become an SPO and ran the newly formed DWI Unit.
Bob was a good SPO for the Dept. and was one of the back bones for the Dept. *** He was well respected in the law enforcement field and the Social worker field.
