Obituary of Kevin O'Brien

Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On June 29, 2024, Kevin "Sweaty" O'Brien, a lifelong Cortlandt Manor resident, passed away peacefully in Mohegan Lake surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Yonkers, New York, on July 28, 1954, to Gertrude and Eugene O’Brien, he lived a life marked by dedication and love. Kevin was a devoted husband to Kathy O’Brien for 40 wonderful years, as well as a loving father to his two sets of twins: Deidra, Nichole, Kevin, and Kelly, who will all cherish his memory.

Kevin's professional life was spent as a skilled truck driver and heavy machine operator, a career he pursued with diligence and pride. Beyond his work, Kevin had a deep-seated passion for cars that defined much of his personal life. For 45 years, he owned and cherished a 1971 Duster, affectionately named Dust in the Wind. This car was more than just a vehicle to Kevin; it was a testament to his enduring love for cars and the source of countless family memories. Kevin’s passion for cars extended to spending quality time with his family at the race track, creating a cherished tradition that his children and grandchildren will continue to honor.

Kevin leaves behind a loving and extensive family, including his beloved wife Kathy; his children Deidra (Sean) Carroll, Nichole, Kelly (Jeremy) Whalen and Kevin (Samantha) O’brien. As well as his grandchildren Detrien, Nicky and Jackson. Kevin is also survived by his brother Duane, sister Bonnie, and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. His legacy will be remembered through his strong work ethic, his enthusiasm for racing, and his enjoyment of cutting firewood, a hobby that brought him peace and satisfaction.

Kevin's life was a blend of hard work, passion, and devotion to his family. He was known for his dedication to his loved ones and his firecracker sense of humor. His infectious enthusiasm for cars and racing, coupled with his commitment to his family, made him a beloved figure in his community.
