Obituary of George Kondogianis
George Kondogianis, a lifelong resident of New York, passed on from this earthly world on July 23, 2024, at the age of 69, after a short illness. He was born in New York City in 1954 to Thomas and Frances Kondogianis. His love of photography started as soon as he could carry the camera around his neck. He began his career in photography, worked at numerous camera stores, with the latest at Lens & Repro, where he catered to high-end photographers. After completing Multimedia Design at NYU, George ventured into web development and the newly emerging arena of digital imaging. He quickly mastered the tools of digital photography and color management in printing and developed an exceptional eye for color and detail. His talent in photography and printing led to a successful career as a highly sought-after certified fine art printer. George built an impressive clientele that included esteemed brands such as Estée Lauder, Cole Haan, Harry’s and Elie Tahari, and worked with some of the most prolific photographers from around the globe. He also worked with art organizations such as Dedalus Foundation, Roy Lichtenstein Foundation, Philip Guston Foundation and ESOPUS magazine.
George was blessed with a creative mind and a talent for technology. His passion for color and his ability to reproduce color with exceptional accuracy on virtually any substrate, kept him in high-demand and he was regarded by many as one of the best fine art printers in the industry. He was a member of the CANON Pro team, working with the CANON Explorers of Light photographers. He produced exquisite large-format prints for numerous galleries, museums and industry events. Throughout his career, George earned numerous professional certifications – He was an original member of the X-Rite Pro Coloratti, and certified by EFI, GMG, Print Factory, Canson, Hahnemühle, and Ilford. He was also an Apple Certified Pro in Color Management and a MAC Expert.
Beyond his professional achievements, George was a valued educator and trainer, ensuring the young generation of photographers has appreciation and skill for color management in print. His fun-loving nature and boundless generosity endeared him to everyone he met. He was adored by family, friends, and colleagues alike.
George leaves behind his devoted life partner, Margaret, his siblings Michael and Evelyn, “Aunt” Barbara, as well as nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and his beloved canine kids, Ella and Bobbi. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
