Obituary of Raymond L See

Raymond L. See passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, surrounded by his family at home.  Ray was born to the late Lester and Mary (Brannigan) See on January 27, 1938. He was raised in Buchanan, NY along with his siblings Donald, and Nancy, who predeceased him. Ray also was predeceased by his infant brother Richard. 

After a cumulative 38 years of military service in the United States Army and the Army  National Guard at Camp Smith in Cortlandt Manor, NY, SFC Raymond L. See was honorably discharged. Retirement brought with it the chance to enjoy life even more with his beautiful wife of 60 years, Darlene Seaboldt. It seems fitting that his funeral service will be held in the same church where they met and later married in 1964. Ray and Darlene were blessed with their daughters, Kimberly and Coleen, where home became Verplanck, NY.  They later also had a dedicated son (in-law), when Coleen married her husband, Douglas Jessup. 

Ray was not only a proud Army veteran, he was also a veteran of life. Ray relished in the simple pleasures that a good meal had to offer, often clapping his hands together in excitement as his plate reached the table. As a little league coach, he rallied his team to turn the game around by turning his cap backward as a symbol of encouragement. Ray offered his guidance by coaching high school baseball and basketball, drawing from his own experience as a high school athlete for Hendrick Hudson High School Class of 1956. Go Sailors! 

Ray and Darlene spent many wonderful years traveling between their winter home in  Brooksville, FL, and their home in Peekskill, NY. They enjoyed all that the good weather in  Florida had to offer, participating in outdoor activities together. While Darlene played Bingo,  Ray became a golfer enjoying many days out on the course. Whether on a cruise ship or near one of their homes, Ray continued to enjoy having a good meal with his wife and friends. 

As the years passed and Ray’s world became smaller, we hope that his heart grew larger with pride for a life well lived as a dedicated servicemember and loving and supportive family man.  We know he will continue to bless Darlene from above with signs from heaven that will make life a little easier for her.  

We would like to think that his life did not end here on a Tuesday at home but rather transformed into life lessons that will be passed on through our words and actions. We will always keep the beautiful memories alive in our hearts, for the memory of good deeds can never be taken from the hearts of those who are grateful. 

Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Chapel service will be held at the Trinity Boscobel Methodist Church 275 Church St, Buchanan, NY 10511, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 11:00 am

Interment, rendering of military honors, playing of taps, and flag presentation ceremony will take place at Hillside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray's memory may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
