Obituary of Maureen B. Turner
Maureen (Hughes) Turner age 93, died peacefully at her beloved Lake home in the Adirondack Mountains in Edinburg, New York, on August 3, 2024, with her daughters by her side. Born in Peekskill, New York, on August 23, 1930, to Susan Theresa (Kelly) Hughes, and Francis (Frank) Hughes, she was one of eight siblings. Maureen attended Assumption Elementary School, followed by Peekskill High School, graduating in 1949. In 1952, she married the love of her life Bud Turner, who nicknamed her “Red”, and together they raised two daughters, Patti and Kelly, settling in Verplanck, New York. Maureen was a loving mother, daughter, wife, aunt, grandma, great-grandma, and friend. She devoted her life to loving her family and friends, creating an unbreakable bond with all those who knew her.
Maureen was employed as a Bookkeeper by Frank and Lindy Plumbing and Heating for over 40 years. She was also co-owner of Springvale Wine and Liquor in Crugers, New York along with her husband Bud, brother Francis, and mother Susan for many years.
Grandma and Oma were her favorite nicknames, as she was blessed with two granddaughters, Jennifer and Jacqueline, and one grandson Nicholas, as well as three great-grandchildren Zoe, Sydney, and Preston, who captured her heart and gave her so much joy. Maureen loved to spend the winters at her home in sunny Florida, and then return to the mountains when summers were too hot in the Sunshine State.
Maureen is survived by two daughters, Patricia (“Patti “) Monk, Kelly Sue (“Kelly”) Polao, son-in-law William (“Bill”) Monk, Kelly’s partner Israel Martinez, and children Jennifer (Monk) Toth, Jacqueline (Monk) Takahashi, and great-grandchildren Zoe and Sydney Takahashi, Preston Toth, and sister-in-law Joan (Youngquist) Hughes. She is predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Sherman (“Bud”) Turner, and precious grandson Nicholas Polao. Maureen is also predeceased by her; brothers Patrick Hughes, Francis Hughes, Peter Hughes, Thomas (Margaret Ann) Hughes, and sisters Nancy Conrad, Sue (Derek) Tudor and Lorraine (Fred) Koverda as well as her brother-in-law Arthur Turner and his wife Mary. Also surviving are five nieces, seven nephews, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY on Sunday, August 11, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Church of the Assumption, 901 1st Street, Peekskill, NY on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 11:30 am
