Richard A. Smeriglio, a former Peekskill resident, passed away Monday May 25, 2015 at Cortlandt Health Center. He was 86. He was the former Proprietor of the Oregon Hardware Store in Putnam Valley. Richard was born in Beacon on April 25, 1929, the son of Ralph and Katherine Balser Smeriglio. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus, East Durham, NY. He was the widower of Rita Smeriglio, who passed away in May of 1999. Richard later married Kathleen Lippert, who survives, and lives in Wallkill, NY. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in East Durham, NY. Besides his wife, he is also survived by 2 daughters, Rita Sharples, of Cortlandt Manor, and Carman Johnson, of Beacon, NY, his grandchildren, Lawrence Sharples and Karl Rennalls, and his stepchildren, Robert, John, Barbara, Tim, and Michael Lippert, and his nieces and nephews. Besides his first wife, he is also predeceased by a brother, Warren Smeriglio, and 2 stepchildren, Jim and Kathy. His Funeral Mass is Friday May 29, 2015 at 10AM at Assumption Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday May 28, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9PM at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home. Memorial Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation.
