Joan Burchetta Miller, age 85 of Carmel, NY formerly of Peekskill, NY passed away on February 27, 2015. A Homemaker, Joan was born at home at 214 High Street in Peekskill, NY to Ernest and Joan Delagrange Burchetta. Joan remained at this home address until she married married Richard W. Miller.
Mom had many jobs over the years, most recently in Peekskill were Whelan Drugs in the Beach Shopping Center and Cross Roads Jewelers and Four Quarters Housewares in downtown Peekskill in the 1960’s and 1970’s. She moved to Dallas Texas when my dad transferred with Standard Brands in 1977. My dad retired and then took a management position with Campbell’s Soup in Laurinburg, NC establishing residence there. Upon his second retirement, they moved into their beach house in Ocean Isle, NC. When my dad passed on, my mom moved north to be with my sister, Joan, and to be closer to her family. When she was little and as a teenager, she was told that she looked like Bette Davis.
Joan is survived by two daughters; Joan Miller Serrecchia and her husband Rocco Serrecchia and Donna Heyner Smith and her husband Oren Smith. Six grandchildren; Richard Miller, Rocco Serrecchia, Jr., Melissa Serrecchia Tedesco and husband Mike Tedesco, Craig Keller and fiancee Ronnie Torrioni, David Serrecchia and Brian Heyner. Six great grandchildren; Alexandria Miller, Elizabeth Garcia, Roxy Torrioni, Julia Tedesco, Italya Miller and Giovanna Miller. Predeceased by her husband Richard W. Miller in March 2006, her brother, Ernest Burchetta, Jr. and great granddaughter, Felicia Miller.
Visitation is Sunday, March 1st, from 4pm to 8pm at the Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on, Monday, March 2nd at the Assumption Church, Peekskill, NY at 10am followed by Interment at Assumption Cemetery.
