Virginia Costigan Reid, a longtime resident of Cortlandt Manor died at the age of 100 years old on February 24, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. She was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, cousin and friend and will be greatly missed by all. Virginia was the beloved daughter of Robert Hampton Costigan and Augusta Henrietta Briggs, born on June 5, 1914 in New York City. She grew up in New York City and lived in Minnesota, White Plains and moved to Cortlandt Manor from White Plains in 1956. On August 30, 1940, she married her husband, Samuel Malcolm Reid at the White Plains Memorial Church, White Plains, NY. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years in 2006. She was a long time member of the Peekskill United Methodist Church. During her early youth, she spent many summers at Camp Arcadia in Casco, Maine. Virginia attended the National Park Seminary, Silver Springs, Maryland and graduated from White Plains High School, she went on to attend Cooper Union, New York City. Virginia was employed for over 35 years for Caldor’s. She will always be remembered as an avid reader, and an accomplished knitter and crocheter too. Virginia enjoyed traveling internationally and throughout the United States and always looked forward to the next adventure. But most of all, her friends and family will always remember her passionate letter writing and her German Shepherds. Her friends were life long and writing was very special to them and to her. She is survived by four children; Patricia Perruccio of Peekskill, NY Richard Reid of Cortlandt Manor, NY, Virginia (Michael) Costa of Cortlandt Manor, NY and Linda Kirinus of Aurora, Colorado. Eight grandchildren; Dominic Perruccio of Peekskill, Pia (Dave) Dixon of Seattle, Michael Reid of Arkansas, Edward (Dee) Jucius of Bronxville, Michael Costa of Washington, DC, Matthew Costa and David (Phoebe) Costa both of North Carolina and Ryan Kirinus of Aurora, Colorado and two step grandchildren; Joe (Karen) Costa of Virginia and Carolyn Costa Smith of Rhode Island. Also surviving are five step great grandchildren and her cousins, David and Peggy Briggs of Troy, NY and Mary Briggs Leff of Madison, Wisconsin. Virginia was predeceased by son-in-laws, Dominic Perruccio and Reinvald (Eddie) Kirinus, daughter-in-law Maureen Reid and step granddaughter Lisa Costa. Visitation is from 12:00 to 4:00pm, Saturday, February 28th at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington St., Peekskill, NY. Funeral Service will be held during visitation at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Rd., Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
