John Louis Brittis, 88, passed away on October 7, 2014 in Enfield, New Hampshire, where he had lived with his daughter and her family. John was born on April 1, 1926 in Yonkers, NY; the son of Nicola and Mary Brittis. John grew up in Yonkers, New York. He later served in World War II along with his brother Nicholas. In 1949, John graduated from New York University and on September 10,1950 he married the love of his life, Catherine Gallo. John went on to get another degree in Pharmacy from St. Johns University in 1952. In 1952, John began working for the Mearl Corporation in Peekskill, NY where he stayed until his retirement in 1994. John served his time at Mearl in many roles, but noted most as the Director of Analytic Chemistry. John also worked part-time for both Suntag and DeChristopher’s Pharmacy both in Peekskill, NY. Although dedicated to his work as both a chemist and pharmacist, John’s true legacy was his love for his family and friends. Everyone who knew John admired him and appreciated his laughter and smiles. His children, nieces and nephews have the fondest memories of John reading and telling stories to them throughout their childhood, and making them pose for countless pictures as the family “photographer.” Formerly of Hopewell Junction and Westchester, New York; John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Catherine (Gallo) Brittis, daughter, Sally Daley and her husband Calvin of Fayetteville, Ga; son, Dr. John Brittis and wife Maria of Bluffton, SC; son, Anthony Brittis and wife Julie of Cupertino, Ca and his daughter, Cathy Bean and husband Jamie of Enfield, NH. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom all survive – Kristi Buck and her husband Aaron; Jason Daley and his wife Laura; Ashley Brittis Wepner and her husband Greg; Jamie Daley Pavao and her husband Nick; Nicholas Brittis, Leanna Brittis, Sarah Kachlic, Olivia Bean, Grace Bean and Dominic and Lucas Buck. John is further survived by his eldest brother, Dr. Anthony Brittis and wife Marianna of Bronxville, NY, and younger brothers Dr. Dante Brittis and wife Dr. Nance’ Brittis of Somers, NY and Dr. Robert Brittis and wife Mary of Hartsdale, NY. John is also survived by, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. John is predeceased by, his eldest son, Nicholas and older brother Nicholas. Visitation will be held Monday, October 13th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home in Peekskill, NY. The funeral service will begin on Tuesday, October 14th with a 10am Mass at the Assumption Church, 1st Street, Peekskill, NY followed by a burial at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Child Advocacy Center at CHAD (Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth) 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756.
