Alfred J. “Al” Donahue age 78 of Buchanan, NY passed away on September 20, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Donahue was born on January 8, 1936 in Peekskill, NY to John and Mary Bruno Donahue. He served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam era. On April 25, 1959 he married Carolyn Gilbert at the Assumption Church in Peekskill. Al was a New York State Trooper for 29 years. He later entered local politics and was the Mayor of the Village of Buchanan for 12 years. Al was very active in community and civic affairs. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Donahue of Buchanan and five children; Cynthia (Robert) Lynch, Michael Donahue, Mary (Kriss) Hammond, Timothy (Desiree) Donahue and Doreen (Brian) Sheridan and twenty grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers; Patrick Donahue, John (Loretta) Donohue and Larry (Carol) Donahue, brother-in-law, Vincent Sorano, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister, Alice Sorano, grandson, Tyler Hammond, sister-in-law, Linda Donahue and best buddy, Kenneth MacDonald. Visitation is Wednesday, September 24th from 2pm to 8pm at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, Peekskill, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, September 25th at 10am, Assumption Church, Peekskill. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Buchanan, NY.
