Edward J. (Bubby) Keon, Jr., born Dec. 7, 1928 to Edward J. Keon, Sr & Margaret (McKeever) of Verplanck, died August 8, 2014 at the age of 85. Married to Carmela (Millie) Marallo in 1954, father to Toni Ann (Gary) Personick and Lori Jean Keon (Stephen Felice), Grandfather to Amy Marie Bradley and Great Grandfather to Jamie Lynn Bradley. His wife Millie passed away in November 2000. Ed was one of 10 children, Rose and James Kleinert, Lawrence & Mary Lou Keon, Joan and Dominick Canestra, Miriam Staten, Daniel & Francine Keon, Margaret & Charles Krachy, Patricia & Robert Vitolo, Thomas & Susan Keon and Dennis Keon. Pre-deceased by his parents, Edward and Margaret, sisters Joan & Miriam and brother Dennis. He has a large extended family of nephews and nieces. Ed graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School. Ed was one of the first inductees into their Athletic Hall of Fame. He received a Bachelor degree in Education from Suny College and a Masters Degree in Education from Empire State. In 1947, at the early age of 17 he was drafted to play minor League Baseball for the Boston Red Sox’s. At age 18 he was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War but remained Stateside. After the war he continued his minor league Baseball career playing for the Red Sox’s in their southern leagues. After his baseball career he became a member of the Bricklayer’s Union for 25 years and served as president for several years of his local. In 1969 Edward became a Teacher for Northern Westchester Boces, where he taught Bricklaying and Architectural Drafting for over 20 years. Edward was a member of many clubs and associations including the Ancient Order of Hibernians where he was elected Hibernian of the Year in the 1990’s. Ed and his wife, Millie loved to social dance and square dance (they were members of the Tarry Squares) they traveled throughout the area attending dances. After Ed retired he also loved to play golf. Ed loved his family and friends and was very outgoing to everyone he met. It was often said he was the unofficial Mayor of the area. He will be greatly missed by all. Visitation at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington St., Peekskill on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, August 11, 2014 at 10:00am at St Columbanus Church, Cortlandt Manor. Interment will follow at the Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made in Edward’s name to C.A.R.C. Keon Center, 2 John Walsh Blvd, Peekskill, NY 10566.
