Rosemarie Stephens, a longtime Cortlandt Manor resident, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Hudson Valley Hospital. She was just one day shy of 79 years old. She worked for 22 years in the Lakeland School District, retiring in 1997. Rosemarie was born in Sleepy Hollow on July 6, 1935, the daughter of Michael and Viola Gioio Lobus. She married Edmund Stephens at St. Ann’s Church in Ossining on November 17, 1957. She was predeceased by her husband in 2007. She was a consummate artist, building and painting custom bird houses, which were sold throughout the state. A devout Roman Catholic, she gave generously of her time and resources to many Catholic causes, most recently restoring a 1932 life-size statue of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, which she then donated to St. Christopher’s Inn at Graymoor, for all to love. Rosemarie is survived by her sons and daughters, Wayne Stephens, and wife, Lisa, of Cold Spring, Gary Stephens, of Stormville, Maryanne Heady, and husband Kevin of Cold Spring, Edmund Stephens, and wife, Sharon, of Cortlandt Manor, and Theresa Johnson, and husband, Roy, of Mohegan Lake; also her grandchildren, Christina Stephens, Matthew, Alexa, and Michael Stephens, and twins Olivia and Lincoln Johnson. She also has a twin sister, Amelia Robinson, and 2 other sisters, Catherine Siciliano, and Gail Fiero, along with a nephew and several nieces. Besides her husband, she is also predeceased by her first born son, Roger, who died in 1971. Visiting will be at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9PM. There will be a Funeral Mass at Assumption Church on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10AM, followed by Burial at St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Ossining.
