Obituary of John A. Calise

John A. Calise, a longtime Cortlandt/Peekskill resident, passed away on Saturday, June 9 at Calvary Hospital. He was 79. John was a retired engineer who worked at the IBM Watson Research Center for more than 30 years. He was born on January 10, 1933 in Manhattan to Venanzio and Maria Calise. John was a veteran, having served in the Army during the Korean War. Afterwards, he attended the City University of New York to study electronics/engineering. On May 3, 1970, he married Anna DiNapoli. They resided in Astoria, Queens until 1972, and, after having two children, Linda and Davide, they relocated to Cortlandt Manor. John took pleasure in photography, ballroom dancing, traveling, and fixing his grandchildren's toys. John enjoyed spending lots of time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife Anna, his daughter Linda Calise-Kerwin and son in law Sean Kerwin of Manhattan, and his son Davide Calise and daughter in law Claver Calise of Cortlandt Manor. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Anthony, Matthew, Christopher, Isabella and Stella. John is also survived by his sisters Nancy and Geraldine, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Antonio and Ralph, and sister Marion.
Visitation is Tuesday, June 12, 2012, 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012, 11:30am at the Assumption Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
