Donald Allen Lancaster, 97, a lifelong resident of Peekskill, NY passed away peacefully on July 28th at the FDR V.A. Montrose. He was born on November 19, 1919 to John and Mabel Lancaster and was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Theresa (Letteri) Lancaster. Donnie & Tessy owned and operated Tessy's Deli in Peekskill for over 30 years. He was predeceased by his four brothers: John, Raymond, Richard and Frank. Donnie, a decorated paratrooper in the 101st Air Borne Division jumped into Normandy on D Day, survived the Battle of the Bulge, and stationed in Germany when victory was declared. Donnie was given the opportunity by the Hudson Valley Honor Flight to visit the WWII memorial in Washington D.C. being greeted by Senator Dole. Donnie retired from the Peekskill Fire Patrol and was recognized for 60 years of dedicated service. He was a lifetime member of the Peekskill Elks & Peekskill Fish and Game Association. He loved hunting, traveling and golfing though his boxers and bulldogs was who he spent most of his time with. Donnie is survived by his daughter & caregiver Marie McKenzie, granddaughter Maria Robillard & fiancee’ Richard Yeaple, grandson Phil (Joanne) Luciani, great grandchildren: Jamie, Jake, Isabella, & Brandon, nephews Jeffrey (Jackie) Lancaster, Rocky Garbellano, Michael Gizzarelli, nieces Tina Pomarico and Janet Tasetano, Megan and good friend John Bracero. Visitation will be held on August 9th from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home in Peekskill, New York. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 1pm. Interment will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery. Donations can be made to Long Island Bulldog Rescue, P.O. Box 239, Stony Brook, N.Y. 11790.
