Obituary of Stanley J. Whitehair

Dr. Stanley J. Whitehair, 52, died unexpectedly, but peacefully, from heart failure in his Peekskill home March 31, 2011. Raised in East Lansing, MI, Stan was a 1977 graduate of Lansing Catholic Central HS and subsequently attended Michigan State University where he received BS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering. Stan’s career as a research scientist included working at NASA, IBM, Cober Electronics, Aria Microwave Systems, teaching in several academic departments, and consulting with private clients. Stan was an inventor on 26 patents and author of numerous publications. Stan was never presented with a technical problem he could not solve or a broken device he could not fix. Who else could have pasteurized an egg without cooking it? In addition to being a brilliant scientist, Stan was a dearly beloved friend, uncle, and brother. Stan’s gentle soul and warm humor endeared him to all. Stan is survived by his brother, Bob Whitehair, sister-in-law Kathy, and nieces Kathleen Keegan, Christine Shanahan and Lia Margaret Whitehair of Beverly, MA. He is predeceased by his parents Dr. Charles K. (Ken) and Margaret M. Whitehair. Visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, April 9th, at the JOSEPH F. NARDONE FUNERAL HOME, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY 10566 914-737-1363. A visitation will also be held in East Lansing, MI on Friday, April 22nd from 4pm to 7pm at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River Ave. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 23rd, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lansing, 855 Grove St., East Lansing, MI. It will be followed by a reception at Coral Gables Restaurant, 2838 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI. Friends and family in the Beverly, MA area are invited to attend services to be announced at a later date.
