Dear Lolly,
I am so sorry to learn of your husband’s passing. After reading about his life, I wish I had known him. I am so inspired by his practice of reaching out to family every Sunday, that I am going to begin to do the same.
When my father died last year, my grief led me to the poem “For Grief” by John O’Donohue. I found the last stanza particularly comforting. I hope, perhaps, it will bring you peace and comfort too.
…Gradually, you will learn acquaintance
With the invisible form of your departed;
And, when the work of grief is done,
The wound of loss will heal
And you will have learned
To wean your eyes
From that gap in the air
And be able to enter the hearth
In your soul where your loved one
Has awaited your return
All the time.
With my deepest condolences,
