Obituary of Margaret Ann Krachy

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret Ann Krachy (Keon), Peggy, passed to her Lord on March 28, 2023

Born on May 3, 1940, in Peekskill, NY, Peggy was the 7th of 10 children born to Edward and Margaret (McKeever) Keon of Verplanck, NY.  She attended Saint Patricks Grade School (where she would meet her future husband in 1st grade) and graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School (Class of 1958).

After graduation, she attended The New York Foundling School (Archdiocese of New York) where she completed their one-year program to become a “baby nurse”.  After graduating from the Foundling School she began her career as a baby nurse working at Phelps Hospital in Tarrytown, NY.  She would also attend classes at the Dominican College of Blauvelt where she earned her Bachelor's degree in education.

On July 2, 1966, she married Charles Edward Krachy in Verplanck, NY and in 1972 they had their first (and last) home built in Garrison, NY.

Her teaching career began as a 2nd-grade teacher at Holy Name of Mary School in Croton, NY.  After several years she transferred to Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Highland Falls, NY where she taught 2nd and 3rd grade for many years and would eventually retire.  She believed “deeply” in helping young children learn and enjoyed the many moments when a former student would meet her in a store and recognize her as their 2nd-grade teacher.

She spent many hours of her time volunteering at Birthright in Peekskill, NY (a cause that was very dear to her heart).  She loved the ocean and spending time with family and friends vacationing on Long Beach Island, NJ, and enjoyed many memorable lunches with her St. Pats girls.

She is predeceased by 5 brothers and sisters:  Rose Ellen (Keon) Kleinert, Edward Keon Jr, Joan (Keon) Canestra, Miriam (Keon) Staten, and Dennis Keon, as well as her parents, aunts, uncles, and 3 nephews.

She is survived at home in Garrison, NY by her loving husband of 56 years, Charles Krachy; three children;  Charles “Eddie” Krachy (Dawn) of Beacon, NY; Desmond “Paul” Krachy (Doreen) of Mahopac, NY; and Todd “Andy” Krachy (Brenda) of Carmel, NY; two grandsons, Charles Edward Krachy IV, and Zakary Krachy; sister Patricia (Keon) Vitolo, brothers Lawrence, Daniel and Thomas Keon, her sister in law, Sharon (Krachy) Guzi, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Church, 240 11th St, Verplanck, NY.
